Communication satisfaction and provider responsiveness correlate strongly with parents' perception of childcare quality (r = .61 and .71 respectively in a 2025 mixed-method study). Perception of quality drives renewal. So the metrics that matter are the ones that track whether families feel seen.
Five metrics
- 1Families who saw their own child this week (%). The single best predictor. Aim above 90%. A room under 80% for two weeks is a room whose families are starting to wonder.
- 2Days since last moment, per child. Sort descending. Anyone over five attendance days is a retention risk and a teacher-coaching conversation.
- 3Reaction rate. Share of moments that receive at least one reaction. Low reaction rate with high views means content isn't landing; high with low views means families need a nudge to look.
- 4Onboarding completion. Share of new families who saw a moment in their first two days. This predicts their engagement for the whole year.
- 5Two-guardian coverage. Share of children with two active guardian accounts. Single-guardian children have half the chance of a parent seeing the day.
What not to measure (for retention)
- Newsletter open rate
- Event attendance
- Portal logins
- Messages sent
All four measure effort or compliance, not feeling. Oyku's engagement summary reports the five above per room; the same numbers can be tracked in a spreadsheet with a little discipline.
