New families are anxious, attentive and forming judgements fast. The settling-in fortnight is when they decide whether your setting is a place that shows or a place that tells. Use it deliberately.

The plan

  1. 1Before day one: invite code by SMS or WhatsApp; a welcome post with a photo of the room and the key person's face.
  2. 2Day one: a single moment of the child, ideally content, before pick-up. Not a group photo — theirs.
  3. 3Day two: a second moment. The parent now expects one. Good.
  4. 4Day three: a short note explaining learning tags (‘Fine motor’, ‘Turn-taking’).
  5. 5Week one, Friday: the room postcard — one group moment with two sentences.
  6. 6Day eight: a moment showing a friend. Parents worry most about friendships.
  7. 7Day ten: invite a reaction: ‘Tap a heart if you'd like more of this kind of moment.’
  8. 8Day fourteen: one question — ‘What do you most want to see?’ — and a photo of something they asked about.

What a good onboarding costs

About eight photos and two short notes over two weeks — ten seconds each in a tool like Oyku. What it buys is a family who opens the app on day fifteen without being asked.
