What every nursery manager tells us about parents

These are the sentences we hear on almost every call with nurseries and early years settings. If two of them are yours, Oyku will probably feel like relief.

“

“Our learning journal is brilliant for evidence and parents barely open it.”

Observations are for the child's development record. Oyku is for the parent's heart at 5:40pm. It complements the journal rather than competing with it.

“

“Practitioners are exhausted by writing observations.”

Oyku asks for a photo and two taps. No text required. The observation stays in your journal; the joy goes to the parent immediately.

“

“Photo consent is a spreadsheet and a prayer.”

Consent lives on the child's profile. Opt-out children are shielded from other families' feeds and from all public content — the app enforces it, not memory.

“

“Parents WhatsApp the room leader directly.”

Personal numbers, no record, no approval. Oyku gives families a school-owned channel that's nicer than WhatsApp, so the groups can close.

“

“Our Instagram is a year out of date.”

Approved moments, cleared for public use only where consent allows, become a ready library for social and your website. Occupancy follows visibility.

“

“We need to show parent partnership at inspection.”

Every reaction, view and shared moment is timestamped. One click exports a parent-engagement summary alongside your evidence.

What Oyku does

Everything a nursery needs to be seen. Nothing it doesn't.

Oyku is deliberately not a billing, attendance or admin system. It is the layer parents open — and the one that makes your nurseries and early years settings feel as good from the outside as they are on the inside.

01

A private feed, per child

Parents open Oyku and see only the moments their child appears in — tagged by the teacher, approved by the school. No public timeline, no strangers, no ads.

02

Teacher capture in under 10 seconds

Snap on any phone, tap the children in the photo, pick the activity, post. Oyku handles grouping, captions and tagging so teachers spend time with kids, not with an app.

03

Approval before anything reaches a parent

Admins can review, restrict or approve every photo and video. Per-child consent flags mean a child whose family opted out is never shared — even by accident.

04

Reactions parents actually send

Hearts, stars, smiles, cakes and balloons. Teachers see who loved what. Principals can pin recognition badges to the moments that deserve it.

05

School-approved social content

The best classroom moments, cleared for public use, become ready-to-post content for Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Channels and Google Business — the admissions engine you already needed.

06

A printed photo book, once a year

Oyku gathers each child's most loved moments into a beautifully printed hardback that arrives at the family's door. Eighteen years from now, there's a row of them on a shelf.

A day with Oyku

A Tuesday at your nursery, captured

No new job for teachers. No new inbox for parents. Just the moments that already happen, arriving where they belong.

  1. 8:40

    Drop-off

A tearful goodbye. Ten minutes later a teacher posts a photo of the same child grinning at the water table. A parent on the train exhales.

  2. 10:15

    Circle time

A first hand raised. A first word read aloud. The teacher taps the child, chooses “Literacy”, and posts. The photo is tagged to exactly one family.

  3. 12:30

    Lunch & rest

A quick group photo of the room at nap time. Approved by the admin in one tap from the office. Six families get a gentle ‘all is well’.

  4. 15:00

    Outdoor play

A twelve-second video of a relay race. The principal adds a ‘Teamwork’ badge. Parents react with balloons. The teacher sees them.

  5. 17:30

    Pick-up

“How was your day?” becomes “Tell me about the water table.” The conversation at dinner starts from a photo, not from ‘fine’.

  6. June

    The photo book

The year's best moments — chosen by Oyku, approved by the parent — arrive printed and bound. Real paper. Real teachers' words.

See your nurseries and early years settings through a parent's eyes, today.

A 20-minute call. A free pilot classroom. No card, no contract.

Built for how you work

Nursery looks different in every country

Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland

Real moments, real days

What a week looks like inside Oyku.

Illustrative moments from settings like yours. Every photo in a real Oyku feed is tagged to one child, approved by the school and shown only to that child's family.

Questions we get

Frequently asked, honestly answered.

Does Oyku replace our learning journal (Tapestry, Famly, Kinderly)?

It doesn't have to. Many nurseries run Oyku beside their journal: the journal holds formal observations and assessments; Oyku is the daily, per-child photo and video feed parents actually open. If you'd rather have one tool, Oyku's activity tags and exports cover a lot of ground — we'll be honest on the call about where a dedicated journal still wins.

How much does Oyku cost for a nursery?

Under £8 per child per month; most settings land nearer £4–5. Begin with a free pilot room for 60 days with no card and no contract. We'll give you a firm number for your setting on a 20-minute call.

How does Oyku handle photo consent and GDPR?

Consent is recorded per child. Children marked opt-out are never tagged, never shown to other families, and never included in public content. Every post is manager-approved. We provide a UK GDPR / EU GDPR data-processing agreement and data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Is it Ofsted-friendly?

Yes. Every moment is timestamped and activity-tagged; a one-click export produces parent-partnership evidence and per-child summaries. Many managers use it to show how they share learning with families.

Can parents reply or message practitioners?

Parents react (hearts, stars, smiles and more) and can comment on their own child's moments. Oyku is deliberately not an open chat: no personal numbers, no out-of-hours pressure on staff.

Does it work for childminders and small settings?

Yes — from a childminder with six children to a 200-place nursery. The free pilot is the same for everyone.
