For expat and diaspora families, the classroom photo is not just reassurance — it's the thread to a grandmother in Kerala or Kraków who will never visit the school. Settings that make it easy for parents to include grandparents see engagement spike, because the parent now has an audience for the moment.

Two safe ways to include grandparents

  • Parent-controlled sharing. The parent saves or sends their own child's moment. The school shared with the family; the family shares onward. Consent stays intact because the family decides. Oyku's ‘Save & send’ works this way.
  • Guardian accounts. Some settings allow a grandparent as a third guardian on the child's profile with the parent's approval — same feed, same privacy.

What not to do

Don't add grandparents to class group chats, and don't post publicly to reach them. Both break the per-child privacy other families are relying on.

The book, again

A printed yearbook posted to a grandparent abroad is the single most-mentioned thing families tell us about. Order an extra copy; ship it to Kerala.
