Rules of selection
- 1One moment per month, minimum. The year should have a rhythm.
- 2Weight by reactions, then correct for quiet. The most-loved moments go in; then add two quiet ones nobody reacted to but that show the child thinking.
- 3Faces and hands in balance. Half the photos should be hands mid-something.
- 4One friend photo per term.
- 5Process over performance. The rehearsal, not just the concert.
- 6Nothing the family wouldn't want. They approve the spread.
Layout
- Chapter pages per month with a title in the hand-lettered style.
- One large photo per spread; two or three small.
- Teacher's caption under the large photo, verbatim.
- Whitespace. A book that breathes is read slowly.
Oyku does this automatically, then lets the family adjust. A setting doing it by hand should budget an hour per child — which is why most don't, and why we built it.
